Title: Lonely Planet Japan
Author: Chris Rowthorn
Edition: Lonely Planet
Genre: Travel Guide
Year: 2011
What I think about it:
The collection of Lonely Planet guides is, in my view, the most comprehensive collection, most detailed and most reliable. During my travels in different countries and continents, I happened to use travel guides, and almost all disappointed me. Those who have the least disappointed me remain by far the Lonely Planet?
What I do not appreciate in travel guides is that they only offer a single point of view, one method of travel. Clearly, when you buy them, you travel in the same way as the author. It is therefore extremely difficult to find a guide that fits you because we all travel in different ways.
Add to this that many travel guides are not regularly updated (I think about some French travel guides I did use) and you will understand that a travel guide is not necessarily the best investment.
That is why I generally recommend to people who ask me to consult the travel blogs (if you intend to go visit the land of the rising sun, my blog on Japan will be there to help you, advise you and guide you, and if you have any questions you can ask me at anytime through the contact form), to ask fellow travellers and go to tourist information center and travel forums. There is, over there, in general more much information and more complete.
My advice:
You’ll understand, I don’t recommend the purchase of travel guides. But after all, much people prefer to buy them before to travel so they can get information. In this case, I highly recommend buying the Lonely Planet travel guides, these are the most complete and those that are updated as regularly, and whose authors come from all backgrounds. So if you plan to go toJapan, I suggest you to buy the travel guide Lonely PlanetJapan.
