Japan is a fascinating, confusing and mostly unknown country. Despite that we often hear about it, who can really pretend to know Japan without even set foot in the country and have discover it from the inside?

March 11, 2011, is an important date in the History of Japan. This is the day when this country was hit by the worst natural disaster in its History: an earthquake of magnitude 9 and a tsunami of 23 meters high. The two have ravaged the northeastern of the countrie and generated tens of thousands od dead and missing.

But as it was not enough, these natural disasters have created a nuclear disaster. Indeed, theFukushimanuclear power plant has been hit by these events, and a crisis almost similar to te one ofChernobylhas been known inJapan

It is therefore important evnt in the History of Japan. Certainly the worst since the 6 and 9 August 1945, when Hiroshima and Nagasaki were bombed by the atomic bombs, generating more than 170,000 dead in minutes.

My plan is to spend a year in Japan (maybe more if affinity), nearly two months after the recent natural disasters, and to discover this culture. I hope to discover the charms, the strengths, weaknesses, qualities and faults of this so intriguing country. And I’d share it all through this blog.

I’m not an Otaku, or geek, orJapanfetish, I am just a regular traveller who has thirst for discovery and knowledge. A traveller who is going where it seems good in terms of its feelings.

By accessing the net in search of blogs about Japan, I found that the near majority were written by trueJapan lovers, some of them live and eatJapan all day long. It was difficult to find something that caters toa more ordinary traveller. Hence the idea to create this blog.

You will have the opportunity to discover Japan throught the eyes of a Gaijin (read a Non-Japanese) who knew nothing about Japan on his day of arrival at Tokyo Narita Airport on May 6, 2011 (except what he learned in his History class at middle and high school). I wish a good reading and some great discoveries.
